We're rebuilding our Home Screen module from the ground up. You'll be able to add or remove as many content blocks as you like. We'll also make available lots of styling and personalization options for each content block.

That is correct. You will be able to add custom post types and taxonomies to your home screen.

The various widgets for the home screen need to give more more granular control. Being able to choose layouts and styles etc would make it far more usable that it currently is.

Will you also be able to display the 'featured images' thumbnails for 'blog categories' to the homescreen, just like the product categories curently do?
